Our cause
Western Union knows that young people with a good education have a better chance of realizing their dreams. As a responsible corporate citizen, we want to see the world's youth live up to their full potential, regardless of geographical location, ethnicity, gender or economic status. That's why we are committed to the cause of secondary education and vocational training. Through initiatives like the Western Union PASS fund, we put our values into action and move money for better education.

What is PASS?
Through PASS, Western Union intends to harness the power of football to build awareness of the need for greater investment in education around the world. We also will help deliver on-the-ground educational support that will make a difference to young people and their communities.
As the new Global Partner of the UEFA Europa League, Western Union will turn every successful pass in this season's competition into funding to support one day's education for young people around the world.
The fund aims to reach one million days of school over the next three seasons.
How you can help: our friends and customers can also add to the Western Union Education Fund by spreading the word about the campaign. Key moments of "social passing" will be announced on Twitter via our PASS ambassador, Patrick Vieira.
Why PASS?
Education is one o f the main reasons our customers send money. According to UNESCO 131 million, hardworking students globally are not enrolled in school - a huge loss of economic and human potential.
How is Patrick Vieira involved?
Patrick Vieira has always had a keen interest in youth education and so decided to join Western Union as a global ambassador for the PASS fund. He is our spokesperson, who represents the best of football and stands for the importance of education. As Patrick said, "Football was my ticket to success, but for the vast majority of young people education is the key that allows them to become whatever they want to be. That's why I'm supporting this campaign. It will benefit students, teachers and schools across the world, particularly in places that need it most, like Senegal where I was born."
Who is counting the passes?
No passes on the field will be missed. All the pass data will be counted by Opta, using the latest technology.
Who will benefit?
Pass will span the globe in addressing barriers to education. It will initially focus on supporting education in eleven countries: Brazil, China, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Romania, Russia and Turkey.
Why have you chosen only 11 markets to benefit from the education fund the passes will raise? How did you pick them?
It's because we want the initiative to be focused on making a social impact while spanning a blend of countries with a good international mix. Plus these countries represent some of the countries where UEFA Europa League players first had their start.
How will the education be delivered?
Western Union and the Western Union Foundation will work with non-profit, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that specialize in areas such as increasing enrolment and addressing teacher shortages. It will be delivered by NGOs that do this on a daily basis and are familiar with the needs of the local communities where they work. They will decide how the money is spent to deliver the number of days of education that Western Union has funded.
When will the money be given to the NGO's and when will it be translated into education for those markets?
It will be given to NGOs on a quarterly basis, so we'll announce the number of passes completed at these points in the UEFA Europa League season. And once the funding grants begin to be used, we'll look to highlight some of the projects.
